The Future of Heating Oil in America

The Future of Heating Oil in America

Using various types of oil to heat one’s living space has been a practice which has existed for thousands of years. In fact, the Chinese were the first to use petroleum as fuel as early as the fourth century BC. As far back as the 16th century Whale oil has been used for heating and lighting. Humans have found a way to incorporate oil for energy purposes for a long time.

The more modern version of this practice is the use of a higher grade petroleum-based heating oil which is stored in a tank outside the home or business. The oil is super safe but also packed with energy. It takes a very hot flame and chamber to ignite this oil. This is why you see very few heating oil accidents on the news.

Still, a relatively small % of homes take advantage of the reliability of the heating oil product. For example, only 5% of homes in Central Virginia use heating oil to heat their living space. – Source: Statista

But the industry is not dying, not by any measure. A recent article featured the fact that petroleum oil as a heat source will maintain or grow in popularity as we approach 2030. This will happen with improved tanks, more efficient equipment and a seeming limitless supply of this type of oil.

In conclusion, its easy to see why we have zero doubt about the future of heating oil in America. At minimum it will stay where it is at. At best it will actually grow in popularity.
